This isn’t about a war, it’s about two brothers who loved each other, and betrayed each other … Why do you think you two are the vessels? Think about it! Michael, the big brother, loyal to an absent father. And Lucifer, the little brother, rebellious of Daddy’s plan. You were born to this, boys. It’s your destiny! It was always you! As it is in Heaven, so it must be on Earth! One brother has to kill the other.

The Most Meta shows on TV—> Supernatural
From having their characters read slash fanfiction about themselves to killing their creator with a shotgun,  Supernatural has gotten progressively more meta as the seasons advance. Using the universe bending power of angels and other monsters, the show has been able to get away with literally creating an entire franchise about their own characters within the confines of their own show. Several themed meta episodes, as well as constant pop culture references creatively curb the drama in an otherwise serious show. The meta genius of Supernatural ranges from fun to incredibly bizarre.
Notable meta episodes: The French Mistake, The Monster at the End of the Book, The Real Ghostbusters.

Castiel: You got what you asked for, Dean. No Paradise. No Hell. Just more of the same. I mean it, Dean. What would you rather have? Peace or freedom?
